The Oregon Trail Review

The Oregon Trail

Today, I am going to review The Oregon Trail. The story is about you and your family are trying to travel to Oregon because of the gold rush. You could become a banker from Boston, a carpenter from Ohio, or you could be a farmer from Illinois. Travelling the Oregon Trail is pretty rough. You have to chose a date to start your travels and use your money to buy some supplies for this adventure that awaits you.

Game

Mechanics:

The game mechanics are simple. You have to type a number and press enter. The game will tell you what each number means. You also get to chose if you want to continue your travel, buy items from the Forts along the trail, hunt for more food, or attempt to trade for someone with you least precious items for items you need.

Scoring Mechanisms:
For the scoring mechanics, the least money your character has, the easier it is for you to get points. If you get enough points, then you will be able to get on the leader board.

Fun Factor/Replay-ability:
I thought this game was fantastic! I understand that you must get board of it after a while, but it is a fantastic game for something that was made a long time ago.

Merit as a true game:
This would have the ability to stand on its feet and possible should have education let the kids play this game to learn more about our past. It helps us students learn more about history and how America came to be. I think I would play this game on my own anytime. It is a fun game, but I wish it was somehow downloadable to play on the go with a laptop. I personally do not see this game as something everyone will play but I could see this game coming to social studies class.

What I learned from playing this game:
I learned the struggles people have faced in the past. It is really hard trying to have everyone in your family alive when you have all of these diseases coming toward you.

Now, do I suggest this game for education?
I do suggest this game to be played for education. It was very fantastic.
Down below are some screenshots from me playing the game for the first time! I hope you enjoy!
